6th Grade Students Explore College and Career Options on UNCW Field Trip

In December, Leland Middle School 6th grade students took a field trip to UNCW, hosted by the CIS Action for Success Program and Success Coaches Ruth Thompson and Melodie Herbein. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed some fun and educational hands on experiences to help connect them to potential college and career options.

The tour started at Randall Library. Inside the library they took a tour of the Digital Makerspace, where they were able to play a Virtual Reality game and look at a few of the 3D printing projects. They also got to play around in the podcasting studio. After the library tour, they had lunch at the amphitheater, which was kindly sponsored by the Brunswick County Kiwanis Club. Once they refueled, they took a walk down Chancellor’s Walk until they reached Veteran’s Hall, where they were welcomed into the Veteran’s Lounge and had the opportunity to speak with some student veterans and learn about their journey from military service to becoming a university student. They then finished the tour by stopping by the Recreation Center and looking at all the outdoor sporting facilities.
It was a great day of learning and adventure. The students represented CIS and Leland Middle School very well, and we were very proud of them.
