Shop Small – Shop Thrift

Brunswick County’s quiet, small town atmosphere is endearing to everyone and lures visitors to come and discover the beauty of the community. Are you ready to shop, eat and celebrate with the small businesses in our community? Communities In Schools (CIS) Thrift Shops are proud to be participating in Small Business Saturday here in Brunswick County and taking place nationwide on Saturday, November 30. Small Business Saturday, founded by American Express in 2010, is held each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to encourage people to shop at independently owned businesses and local stores.

CIS supports the shop small movement and values building enduring relationships and supporting communities through small businesses. CIS Thrift Shops carry out the small business vision of supporting our local community where people from all backgrounds can appreciate the high-quality merchandise available at CIS Thrift Shops at deeply discounted prices.

Our thrift shop staff and volunteers look through every batch of donations with care and appreciation, pricing and preparing items for the sales floor that meet our standards for quality and cleanliness. Clothes that are too worn or dirty are recycled rather than thrown away, called our Cycle of Giving. Recycled items are picked up and repurposed by a company giving clothing to impoverished third world countries. Your donations are important to us, because they are the key to helping people improve quality of life – both for those purchasing the items and the students of Brunswick County who benefit from the programs and services partially funded by CIS Thrift Shops.

“When you Shop Small, you are making a difference,” says CIS Thrift Shop Operations Director Todd Beane. “You are supporting small businesses that strengthen our communities and shopping at CIS Thrift Shops supports local students.”

A great service to the community and a great service to Brunswick County students, high quality merchandise and low pricing make CIS Thrift Shops an establishment that people have come to love. CIS Thrift Shop staff and volunteers are dedicated to making your visit the most memorable shopping experience. Staff and volunteers are always happy to see you, offer shopping advice, and go above and beyond to provide great customer service. CIS Thrift Shops are kept clean, organized, and welcoming for our new visitors as well as our long-time valued customers and community members.

The holiday season is here and gift shopping is in full swing. In addition to visiting retail stores, thrift shops should be on the list when searching for sales. When we buy from a neighborhood CIS Thrift Shop, we not only support the local economy, but find great deals, and support a good cause all at the same time. CIS of Brunswick County began its programs in 1995, and has become an effective and respected community-based organization helping kids succeed in school and prepare for life.

The mission of CIS is based on the belief “programs don’t save children, relationships do.” CIS surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS believes every child deserves a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult, a safe place to learn and grow, a healthy start and a healthy future, a marketable skill to use upon graduation and a chance to give back to peers and the community.

CIS thrift shops offer a variety of gift ideas at extremely discounted prices compared to department stores. Thrift shop inventory arrives and turns over daily, so the more you visit, the better. It’s a fun way to shop, save money, and support CIS educational programs in Brunswick County. “By supporting CIS Thrift Shops you are investing your dollars back into creating a better educational future in the community where you live,” said Bonnie Jordan, Executive Director of CIS Brunswick County.

Hundreds of shoppers, food lovers, and other supporters pledge their support on Small Business Saturday. Check with local area businesses to see what specials and sales they may have taking place. CIS Thrift Shops will have 25% off the entire store on #ShopSmallSaturday. Everyone is welcome to join the movement on social media by using the hashtags #ShopSmall and #SmallBizSat.

CIS operates four thrift shops throughout Brunswick County for your shopping convenience.
