New CIS Thrift Shop Coming to Shallotte in February 2024!

Those who have lived in Brunswick County for any period of time have most likely seen, heard of, or visited one of our CIS Thrift Shops. In addition to our existing shops in Boiling Spring Lakes, Southport, and Sunset Beach, a new shop will open in early 2024 in Shallotte. The new shop will be located in the former Highway 55 restaurant location at 7501 Main Street and is currently being beautifully up-fitted to have the boutique feel that we strive to provide at all of our shops. We look forward to serving Shallotte and the surrounding communities and getting to know our neighbors and fellow business owners in Shallotte when we open in February 2024. Keep looking for announcements about our Grand Opening Event on our website and our Facebook pages: Communities In Schools of Brunswick (CIS), and CIS Thrift Shops at Boiling Spring Lakes, Southport, and Sunset Beach.

Through the generosity of our donors, volunteers, and shoppers, the revenue raised through the CIS Thrift Shops supports dropout prevention services, provided to 541 students in the 2022-2023 school year at nine local schools. CIS will be able to have an even greater impact and reach additional students through its dropout prevention programming with the revenue generated by our new shop in Shallotte. Funds raised through the shops support the sustainability and growth of our school-based dropout prevention program, called Action for Success, that operates at nine schools within the Brunswick County Schools district: Leland Middle, Lincoln Elementary, Town Creek Middle, South Brunswick Middle, Supply Elementary, Cedar Grove Middle, Waccamaw School (K-8), Shallotte Middle, and Jessie Mae Monroe. The program is poised to expand to two additional elementary schools in the 2024-2025 school year as well, pending receipt of grant funding for which CIS has applied.

CIS Thrift Shops are run by both paid staff and volunteers working together to provide a great shopping environment where the community can purchase high quality gently used and new items at affordable prices. The shops strive to be a part of the community in which they operate and staff strive to get to know their customers and donors on a personal level. They accept donations and display them for sale in each of the shops – located in Boiling Spring Lakes, Southport, Sunset Beach, and our soon-to-open Shallotte location- which are open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM.

If you are able to donate gently used items, volunteer a few hours per week to provide customer service or to sort and prep items for the sales floor, we would love to have your help at one of our shops! Please contact Emily Luther, Development Director, at eluther@cisbrunswick.org or stop by one of our shops for more information.

We are always in need of new or gently used items, including baby, toddler, children’s, men’s, and women’s clothing and accessories, household items, books, CDs, videos, shoes, jewelry, purses, outerwear, games and puzzles, toys, linens, and related items. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Come by and experience the CIS Thrift Shop experience for yourself. There are many treasures to be found and great sales throughout the year as well. We even offer a free Frequent Shopper card to our customers to earn points each time you shop for even more discounts. Stop by and join in the fun! You will be happy you did!
