Eshelman Foundation Grant Supports CIS School-Based Programs

Thank you to The Eshelman Foundation for their generous grant award to support our Action for Success Program that provides dropout prevention programming in nine Brunswick County schools. CIS has been the fortunate recipient of grant funding from The Eshelman Foundation in the past as well and it has had a measurable impact on the success of local students. The Eshelman Foundation strives to strengthen North Carolina by improving the quality of life for children living in our local communities through support of solution-based programs that focus on pediatric health care and educational-related issues. The Eshelman Foundation’s vision is to be a distinctive leader in strengthening the health and education of children in North Carolina by investing in programs that:
Promote equality and foster awareness across all social, economic, and ethnic groups.
Deploy a multifaceted, team approach that contributes to a healthy, energetic youth population committed to service and teamwork.
Encourage and reward innovation and excellence in education.
Empower communities by bolstering local resources and networks that positively influence children’s lives.
Demonstrate success through measurable improvements in the health status of children served.
When a new school year begins in August 2026, our Success Coaches will resume working one on one and in small groups with students who have been identified as at risk for dropping out of school and/or not being promoted to the next grade, due to a variety of risk factors. Our staff work to mitigate barriers to student success by creating individualized Student Support Plans and setting incremental goals for students in the areas of attendance, behavior, coursework, life skills, and basic needs. CIS Success Coaches then provide direct, ongoing intervention and support to each student to help them achieve their goals, keep pace with their peers, and enjoy overall physical and emotional well-being and connectedness to their school and community.  Our Action for Success Program serves over 500 students each school year and strives daily to fulfill our mission “to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.”
CIS thanks The Eshelman Foundation for being #AllinforKids in the Cape Fear region and helping us to ensure our mission reaches students in need of additional support to be successful both inside and outside of the classroom. Together, we are helping students have bright futures!
