A Winning Combination: Building Self-Confidence and Academic Success
Madelyn, a 5th grader at Supply Elementary, has been part of the CIS Action for Success program since 4th grade. Originally referred to the program due to a lack of confidence and significant struggles in Math, she has spent the last two years working closely with her CIS Success Coach to strengthen her skills and self-confidence.
Her commitment to improvement was unwavering. Maddie engaged with CIS weekly and frequently arrived at school early to receive extra guidance from her Success Coach. Despite her dedication, she faced substantial anxiety regarding her upcoming math End-of-Grade (EOG) examinations. To help her overcome these hurdles, we established a targeted study plan involving weeks of intensive practice with EOG-style questions. This initiative aimed to bolster both her technical Math proficiency and the mental toughness needed for high-stakes testing.
Morning sessions with her Success Coach focused on one-on-one tutoring combined with participating in small group instruction. This period of diligent effort and persistence culminated in a wonderful success. Maddie recently announced that she officially passed her Math EOG test, a milestone we celebrated together to honor her academic progress and newfound self-assurance.
Our CIS Success Coaches build deep, intentional relationships with students to create wonderful and lasting impacts on their lives. These connections serve as the foundation for academic growth and personal development, allowing us to support students through their most challenging moments. By fostering an environment where every student feels supported and valued, we empower them to overcome obstacles and achieve milestones they once thought were out of reach.
