Being Present Matters
Although the new school year has just begun, we are already seeing progress being made by students as they work with their CIS Success Coaches. One example is Alice, an 8th grade student at South Brunswick Middle School who is receiving support from Success Coach Bryan Mills.
Bryan shares that Alice has already made remarkable progress in her school attendance this year. After missing a significant number of school days during her seventh-grade year, she has been present for all 27 days so far this school year. This consistent attendance has had a positive impact on her academic success, with her grades showing noticeable improvement as she has remained engaged in her classes. Communities In Schools has
supported her progress through regular check-ins, encouragement, and attendance incentives that help reinforce the importance of being
present and engaged in school.
Alice’s success demonstrates how consistent attendance, positive relationships, and targeted support can help students build momentum toward academic and personal success. We are so proud of Alice and of our Success Coach who has successfully shown students that #BeingPresentMatters. Mr. Mills is consistently #AllinforKids at South Brunswick Middle School! and it shows in the success achieved by the students with whom he works each day. He will continue to support Alice throughout this school year, ensuring she continues to attend school regularly, is able to connect with positive peers, has her basic needs met so she can focus on learning, and has Mr. Mills as a resource and mentor within her school community to help her face any challenges that may arise Together, they will keep Alice on a pathway of continued growth and success!
