Celebrating National Volunteer Month!
In celebration of National Volunteer Month our spotlight is on Larry Tolep, who retired in January 2025 as Treasurer of the Volkswagen Group of America. and now volunteers with CIS at Town Creek Middle School as a tutor.
Larry is married with a son, daughter, son-in-law and grandson. He is active in golf, tennis, pickleball, etc. but also wants to spend some of his time volunteering. In particular he has worked with young adults. In college he was a Big Brother and while living in Virginia he coached basketball for the Special Olympics,. Now he volunteers with CIS. He has volunteered with us for the past 6 months.
Through tutoring students in Math, Larry hopes he is helping them improve their skills. The students Larry works with are those who need more one-on-one time to master Math concepts so they can keep pace with the classroom curricula and academic expectations for their grade level.
Larry believe sin the philosophy of “pay it forward” . He enjoys supporting and helping others in general. Specifically to CIS, he wants to help/work with students who need it the most in order to provide them the opportunity to be successful. To quote Larry, his goal is to “ Provide support and guidance to students who need it the most so they can have a fulfilling life as they move into adulthood.”
