Annual Compass Pointe Back to School Bash Grows Again This Year!

Sometimes a simple thank you is just not enough. Communities In Schools owes A TREMENDOUS THANK YOU TO THE COMPASS POINTE COMMUNITY in Leland for hosting their 7th Annual Back to School Bash to benefit CIS and Brunswick County Schools students. The bash resulted in $1,915 in monetary support, 1,579 backpacks, and 9,064 school supplies! Over the last 7 years Compass Pointe residents have collected a total of 6,520 backpacks and 47,925 school supplies!
CIS Program Director, Drew Jordan, attended the Back to School Bash on Sunday July 20th to receive the donations, which will be sorted and packed for distribution to all county schools in mid-August. Special thanks to Judy Hogan and Kathy McEvoy from Compass Pointe who coordinate this amazing effort every year! Compass Pointe residents are extremely generous and supportive of their community and this effort continues to grow each year.
The Compass Pointe Back to School Bash has grown from a neighborhood gathering the first year in someone’s driveway to a full blown community event held at the Grand Lanai in Compass Pointe. Each event includes special activities such as food trucks, live music, or a car show,  It often just takes one or two people to see a need and step forward to help address it. Who knew where this event would be seven years later?
In Brunswick County, all elementary and middle schools are federally designated Title I schools with high percentages of economically disadvantaged students. Needing to purchase backpacks and a host of school supplies for each school-aged child, along with clothing, puts a true financial burden on many families. The Back to School Bash helps ease the stress of a new school year beginning both for parents and for students who know they will be able to start school with the tools needed to learn and keep pace with their peers.  So many local students can now look forward to a new school year starting on August 25th because of the success of the Back to School Bash!
