CIS receives contribution from Cygnus Technologies

Communities In Schools of Brunswick County (CIS) expresses its gratitude for a financial contribution recently provided by Cygnus Technologies of Southport in support of their work with at risk students in local schools. Cygnus Technologies has been a previous contributor to the work of CIS and this recent contribution will help continue to ensure at risk students attending Brunswick County Schools have access to the academic, social-emotional and other supports they need to stay in school and continue building the vital skills needed to eventually enter the workforce.

CIS provides an Action for Success program in four middle schools, Waccamaw School (K-8), and Supply Elementary School that incorporates Success Coaches, community volunteers, and community partnerships to support student achievement. CIS assists Brunswick County students through its Action for Success Program, 21st Century Community Learning Center After School program, Teen and Peer Court programs, and Parenting Education Program, all working to support the well-being and success of students and their families. Through the CIS Action for Success Program, Success Coaches work one-on-one and in small groups during the school day with students identified as needing additional support to be successful in school. Interventions are individualized and focus on academic, behavior, attendance, and social-emotional learning goals.

This current academic year, CIS has worked with 401 at risk students in six local schools providing tutoring, mentoring, social emotional learning groups, behavioral and truancy interventions, and basic need items to help students keep pace with their peers and remain committed to attending school and working toward graduation. While this school year has been challenging due to the COVID 19 pandemic and the move to remote learning for students, CIS staff continue providing remote support through social emotional learning groups, providing books and other materials needed to continue learning from home, providing emotional support to students and parents while they are socially isolated, and providing linkage to needed community resources to meet emergency needs. CIS thanks Cygnus Technologies for their commitment to their community and for being #AllinforKids.
