Rural Communities Grant Focuses on Improving School Attendance

Prior to the Winter Break in December, CIS Success Coaches distributed independent reading books and educational games to students being served at four schools through a Rural Communities Grant from CIS National: Cedar Grove Middle, Waccamaw School, Supply Elementary, and Jessie Mae Monroe Elementary.
The grant is focused on improving attendance, and providing resources for students at home during school breaks is just one element of that process. When students are able to retain vital academic skills during school breaks, such as Reading and Math, it helps them keep pace with their peers and makes it more likely they will want to attend school regularly and have more confidence in the classroom.

Thank you to the Communities In Schools national organization (www.communitiesinschools.org) for awarding us this grant funding to provide this critical support for students in Brunswick County!
