Tutoring to Strengthen Student Academic Skills

Tutoring is one of a number of supports provided to students by the Action for Success Program. Students who need additional support to grasp new concepts, need reinforcement of learning provided in the classroom, or need to regain skills lost due to being out of school as a result of COVID are provided with one-on-one or small group tutoring throughout each week at all nine schools served by Communities In Schools. CIS Success Coaches work with elementary and middle school students, along with volunteer tutors from the community, tutoring students in core subject areas that include Math, Reading/Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.  Providing this additional  support to students gives them increased confidence in their ability to learn and keep pace with their peers, and results in their increased participation in classroom discussions.
