Second Annual Kentucky Derby Garden Party CIS Fundraiser
Ms. Barbara Silva of Leland hosted her second annual Kentucky Derby Garden Party Fundraiser to benefit CIS on Saturday May 4, 2019. The beautiful garden of her home in The Bluffs was the backdrop for an afternoon filled with brightly colored dresses and derby hats lavishly decorated for the event by the attendees. Over 25 ladies and several gentleman attended the event which featured homemade tastings ranging from finger sandwiches to salads, barbeque and special desserts. A silent auction offered many handcrafted items along with artwork created by the hostess. A raffle and prize for the best derby hat rounded out the day’s activities. All who attended had a wonderful afternoon while raising funds to support CIS work with at-risk students in Brunswick County Schools.
The event raised over $2,000 generously contributed by Ms. Silva’s family, friends, and neighbors. CIS is deeply grateful for Ms. Silva’s willingness to host this event again and is humbled that CIS was once again the beneficiary of her efforts. All funds raised will support the CIS Action for Success Program which provides a Success Coach in six local schools to provide academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional learning interventions to students, helping them stay in school and be successful both in and out of the classroom. Kudos to Ms. Silva and her guests for a wonderful Kentucky Derby event!
