Building Student Resiliency at Cedar Grove Middle School

Ashley was a new student at Cedar Grove Middle School this past school year. She recently moved from Nevada! Moving and being a new student are all big changes and Ashley was referred to CIS to provide her with support during her transition. CGMS saw a large enrollment of new students this year and both CGMS and CIS staff began to work on providing assistance for students during that time. Often moving and switching schools can present students with challenges. Ashley is an incredibly smart and kind student. The Success Coaches at CGMS first began meeting with Ashley for check-ins, lunch groups with other new students, and character development. Over time, Ashley has transitioned wonderfully here at CGMS. She has made great relationships with both students and staff, and has made great progress at managing feelings of anxiety. Ms. Kaci, one of her Success Coaches, has since made the Character Development resources used during their meetings available for these students on a Google Classroom- and Ashley has shared that she finds her access to those resources very helpful. She says she often utilizes the anxiety coping skills materials.  Attached is an example of one of the resources in Kaci’s classroom. Ashley shared that this resource in particular has been very helpful. Ashley is wonderful and we are glad we are able to work with her and to have seen her growth!
