First Trivia Night Fundraiser a Success!

Communities In Schools held its first Trivia Night fundraiser on Saturday  December 3, 2021 at Makai Brewing Company in Ocean Isle Beach.  The event was sponsored by Thrivent and the Master of Ceremonies for the evening was DJ Randy Slack from Modern Rock 98.7 in Wilmington. Thrivent provided complimentary pizza, wings, and tee shirts for attendees and volunteered their help the evening of the event.  Makai Brewing Company agreed to stay open to accomodate the Trivia Night event. Thrivent also had special glasses created, featuring the CIS and Thrivent logos. The glasses were available for a nominal cost and included a free beer pour.

The crowd enjoyed several challenging rounds of trivia and winners received gift cards to local businesses, along with a few other surprise add ons. Thrivent has committed to sponsoring at least two more Trivia Night events, one in the Southport area and one in the Leland area in the coming months. Stay tuned to our website and our Facebook page for those event dates.  We guarantee a fun-filled evening of food, drink, and fellowship at a very affordable cost. All funds raised through these events support the CIS Action for Success Program that provides Success Coaches in nine Brunswick County schools – Leland Middle, Town Creek Middle, South Brunswick Middle, Cedar Grove Middle, Shallotte Middle, Supply Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Jessie Mae Monroe Elementary, and Waccamaw School (K-8)- to work with students who are identified as at-risk for either not being promoted to the next grade at the end of the school year or  who are at risk for dropping out of school. The program provides tutoring, mentoring, attendance interventions, behavioral interventions, social-emotional learning, club activities to promote positive peer connections, and items to help meet basic needs. Each year the program serves over 400 students.

Please support our Trivia Night and other events as we work to ensure all students, regardless of circumstance, have the opportunity to learn, grow, and enjoy overall well-being. With our collective support, all lour local students can succeed and achieve their dreams of a bright future!
